Puppies need lots of sleep.

Many people think that the best time to get a new puppy is over the holidays.  However, is this the best time for the puppy?

Now, let’s consider the puppy’s viewpoint…

He, the puppy, gets picked up by a stranger and taken away from his siblings, his bedmates and playmates.  He is then thrown into the hustle and bustle of the holidays, filled with people and lots of affection.  That can exhaust him and puppies need sleep.  So, what area the puppies thoughts?

He now begins to adjust to his new surrounds, environment, people and routine.  He starts getting accustomed to this new schedule and low and behold, things change again.  Not only are all the different people not around anymore but mom and dad aren’t either.  He has to adjust, yet again.

Now, let’s consider that you’ve already thought of this and you are now going to take a break from work, each day, come home and take care of your new furry friend.  You’ll give him food and/or potty breaks, pay him some attention and then you have to run off, again.

What’s changed…no other playmates, the people and the number of different people, amount of attention, feedings, potty breaks along with the number of these feedings and potty breaks, that’s all!

What is best for the puppy?  Make one change and be consistent. Your new puppy has a lot of new things to get used to, without having constant changes.
